The corrupted concepts

They grew up together and had known each other since they had started knowing. And then for a period of 25 years, filled with childhood fantasies, adolescent inhibitions, teenage rebellion and post-teen thoughts of going out there and changing the world, countless secrets were shared and numerous dreams were dreamt together, until one day, on a wet evening when he asked her,"Shalu, will you marry me ?".
He looked up and knew that his world had changed. Streams of tears were running down the red puffed-up cheeks of his childhood friend.
"You have been seeing me like that?!!", she cried, clutching his collars, unable to restrain her tears. "After all this time...."
He felt lost.
"I...What...??", he choked.
"Just an object for your desires!!", she screamed and he felt his skin burn when her tears fell on his face.
And then as she ran away from him, enraged by the horrific betrayal, he couldn't help but wonder whether there was something seriously wrong with the concept of Indian marriages and whether the tear-stained blurred image of her beautiful hair in the setting sun will be his last memory of her.
